At the Mission Conference...

We finally met Elder Justin Maughan!

Not that we know him... or that he's been out in the mission that long, but when Elder Maughan entered the Provo MTC, his mother, Jamie, happened upon our blog and left a message on February 24, so we just had to find him. She said that he has a great smile, a big heart and a passion for playing the piano. We verified all three:-)

"I was sitting here missing him and I happened upon your blogspot. My heart just swelled as a saw your faces and realized that you might someday know my son. Looking at your pictures and reading your stories helped to make this lonesome mom a little happier knowing that my son is going to such a wonderplace and will be serving with such great people. Since Justin received his call on December 13, 2007, we were blessed with an immediate confirmation that the New York, New York South mission is where Justin is supposed to be.
We immediately began praying for thoes serving in this mission; that thoes people that are seeking the gospel will be led to the missionairies and the missionairies to them."

Aren't moms great?
She even created a blog for her son. www.elderjsmaughan.blogspot.com

Sister dePaula,
I'm still drying my tears! I never thought I'd see Justin on your blog so imagine my surprise this morning when I DID! The first time I found your blog and saw the picture of you and your husband, I knew immediately that you were good people. I so hoped that you and Justin would someday meet. Thank you so much for posting his picture. He really is a terrific missionary and having an amazing time serving in the New York New York South Mission. Did you get to hear him play the piano? That's one of the things I miss most about having him away, the piano is so quiet! Did you tell him I'd been stalking you? He knows I'm a crazy mom so I'm sure he wasn't surprised. I'd told him about you and I could imagine his eyes rolling even then! Thanks for indulging this missionary mom! You've made my day, week, month, YEAR!! Thanks also for mentioning his blog, it's been so fun. I might add this picture to it if you don't mind.
Love,
Jamie Maughan

Jamie...dry your tears or cry again...whatever your heart desires - you're a missionary mom!

Elder Maughan is doing great, and no, I didn't hear him play the piano since we were at Mission Conference, but I did ask him if he was being used in the field. He said that his companion accompanies more than he does right now.

You're welcome to the picture... if you don't mind that I look I'd just cooked for 100 starving missionaries! Oh...I had:-)
