The full-time missionaries did!
Ten of us!
That's right - ten full-time missionaries are assigned to the Bay Shore building and that's how many people showed up for the satellite broadcast of the Saturday morning session of General Conference.
It was actually wonderful to be in such a small group. There was a powerful spirit and energy in the room, as we were all thrilled to be partipating in the Solemn Assembly and so eager to be spiritually fed by the brethren from the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.
Most of our ward members actually watched Conference on BYUTV or via the Internet, which we could have done. But we wanted support our young missionaries at the church, since they had no other option. We just love them! They work so hard and give service to so many.
Between sessions, we decided to take them to lunch. We knew they would be hungry. They work so hard... they're always hungry! They chose the Old Country Buffet. And did they ever eat! Hey...is that why we caught a few of them dozing during the afternoon session?

I'm trying this again. Conference was wonderful and I 'm glad you were with the missionaries. They'll remember it forever. Everytime they watch conference in the future they'll say, "Remember when the de Paula's watched conference with us at the church and then took us to that buffet?" Lifelong memories. You look great!
Love, Nicole
Sounds like fun. It will be interesting to find out how we get to watch Conference in 6 months when we are in Peru. Will it be broadcast in English? Will be have Internet and have to listen to it? We have so many questions about our mission and so few answers.
This is Sister Eldredge, once again stalking the De Paulas... I've tried email, no luck, I've tried facebook, no bites. But then I was reminded about the blog. I had no idea you were in New York! What a blast. What's a girl got to do to come see you on a layover from London?
My warm wishes, prayers, and love,
Ruth
Brother Scott...your mission in Peru will receive satellite transmission to a stake center or other building where you will meet.
Possibly, because of the time difference (like was the case when we were in Brazil on our first mission) they may chose to show Conference at a more convenient time. The same will be the case with the Priesthood Session and the General Womens meeting.
Oh yes, there are many wonderful things in store for you and Bev! We are so excited for you:-)
Ruth...my love! What a delight to hear from you all the way from London! Is your schooling completed?
We would LOVE you to stop by on the way home. When might that be?

Dear Sister de Paula,
I was checking your blog today and I loved seeing the missionary's. It's so nice of you to spend time with them. I wondered where my own missionary (Elder Maughan) was watching conference. Now that I know who his companion is, I looked at some of your older postings and I think I may have seen him in the photo of the large group of missionaries-Dist. mtg. March 7th. His name is Elder Swift. I sure hope you get to meet Justin. I so enjoy reading your blog and seeing all the fun things you get to particpate in.
Best wishes,
Jamie M.
Jamie...click on the picture and it will enlarge it to your full screen size, then you'll be able to see if it's the elder you think may be Elder Swift.
I've asked around Zone 7 and 8 and I'm thinking Elder Maughan is not out this way on Long Island...but surely could be at a later time.
We'll ask the mission president Saturday night where he is and I'll tell you all the details :-) We have a senior missionary dinner party at their home.
Sister D
Sharon and Lin,
Conference was wonderful! (Did you notice me on the front row?) I was able to sing three sessions this time -- I'm thankful that my health is good enough that I could still do so. Thank you for your sweet comments on my blog. It's such a pleasure to read that others are sharing. Take care out there. Is there anything I can send you? How about some copies of the Choir's newest CD, "Called To Serve" ? Have you heard it? I love it!!! I'll send you some if you want.
My dear friend Kelli - YES, we did in fact see you on the front row (placed by height so we knew right where to look:-)! The music was celestial! Some of the best we've ever heard.
Singing in Conference was always a spiritual treat. I cried Saturday and Sunday, not because I missed being in the Choir, but because of the blessing we had to sing in it. The memories last, thankfully forever, without the grinding schedule.
No, we haven't heard the newest CD and would love to. You are a dear!!!
