New Convert Baptism in Bay Shore Ward

Just fifteen minutes after our Book of Mormon class ended in the Relief Society Room Thursday evening, February 21, David Severe was baptized and became the newest convert member of the Bay Shore Ward. As we finished teaching and the closing song and prayer took place, we didn't know what was happening in the room.

Suddenly everyone stood up, turned their chairs around to face the font, and the prelude music began and more people started coming in the room. It was then that we learned of David's baptism.

Elder Walsh, one of the full-time missionaires in our ward performed the baptism, Elder Williams, left, gave a talk on baptism, and a ward member Jack Ampudia spoke on the Holy Ghost. The work is moving forward!

We were blessed to have our mission president - President Steven and Sister Majorie Bennion - in attendance for this beautiful event, as well as 35-40 ward members. Following the baptism, everyone gathered in the multi-purpose room for mingling and food...of course!

Oh, how wonderful! Wonderful that you got to teach a class and wonderful that you enjoyed a special baptism. Makes me excited for our mission. (BTW, I have finished my medical and dental papers, but have one more dental appointment. Same with Beverly. We hope to submit our completed papers by mid March.)

WOW! Missionary papers in by mid March. Are you and Bev so excited? You would feel right at home back here...or anywhere for that matter:-)

Brother and Sister de Paula,
You don't know me, but my name is Jamie Maughan and I live in Twin Falls, Idaho. My son, Justin Maughan, has been in the MTC since Feb. 27 and has been called to serve in the NY-NYCS mission. He is due to leave the MTC on March 17th. I was sitting here missing him and I happened upon your blogspot. My heart just swelled as a saw your faces and realized that you might someday know my son. Looking at your pictures and reading your stories helped to make this lonesome mom a little happier knowing that my son is going to such a wonderplace and will be serving with such great people. Since Justin received his call on December 13, 2007, we were blessed with an immediate confirmation that the New York, New York South mission is where Justin is supposed to be. We immediately began praying for thoes serving in this mission; that thoes people that are seeking the gospel will be led to the missionairies and the missionairies to them. So, if you wouldn't mind, if you come across a missionary from Idaho in the next few weeks with a great smile, a big heart and passion for the piano, give him a hug from his mom. I look forward to following your success and seeing the sites through your blogspot, if you wouldn't mind.
Thank you,
Jamie Maughan

Jamie...how very kind of you to write! I must say, I can hardly wait to meet your son - Elder Maughan. Hopefully he will serve near us so we can experience his "great smile, a big heart and passion for the piano" - three of my very favorite qualities in a person!

Elder de Paula and I will definitely keep our eyes open for this remarkable servant and hopefully we can get a picture of him to put on this blog:-)

Love, Sister Sharon de Paula

Thank you for replying to my comment. I do hope you get to meet Elder Maughan. It'll be so fun to hear from you and maybe even see a picture of him on your blog. I love seeing the pictures of the missionaries. It's tough, as a mom, not being able to see your son actually "being" a missionary!
Best Wishes, and thank you again!
Love,
Jamie Maughan

Hello! Thank you for replying to my comment. I hope you get to meet Elder Maughan. Who knows, maybe I'll even get to see a picture or two of him in action. That's one of the hard parts of being a missionary mom, you don't get to see them actually "being" missionaries. After reading more about you, I think you'll really hit it off. The description of your favorite music would be almost exactly the same as Justin's. He loves "The Magic Flute" and "The Marriage of Figaro" You wouldn't know it to look at him, but he's a classical music junkie! Get him talking about it and you'll soon find out! Thank you again, talking with you as helped a lot! Just knowing he'll be serving with such kind people is so rewarding for us at home!
Love,
Jamie Maughan
